+ Treating people after a stroke. - October 06

Hi John,
Thanks for your recent email including Q's and A's. I'd love to know more about using CST on people who have had a stroke. Any successes?
Thanks so much.
Warm regards,
Harold Epstein.

>>>MY COMMENTS:

Here are some things to consider with someone who has had a stroke, Harold.
How big the stroke was.
How much damage was done.
How long ago the stroke was.
Is the person likely to have another stroke.

The common aspect I have noticed with people who have had strokes is a feeling of pressure and rigidity in their systems.

In the area where they have had the stroke it nearly always feels - for want of a better word - dead.

In terms of success I have been able to help people get a certain amount of reactivation of limbs and regain mobility and control.

However this always feels like I'm helping their brain rewire itself rather than helping the damaged part of their brain regenerate. It feels like their brain is rerouting itself around the damaged area. The amount of success you can achieve depends on the points to consider I set out above.

If the person is likely to have another stroke or mini-strokes you will need to proceed very carefully, if at all. It's not something to be cavalier about and if you're not sure get assistance from a more experienced practitioner.

Compared to the amount of experience I've had with other conditions I feel my experience of working with people who have had a stroke is limited. So if anyone else reading this has more to add I'd love to hear it and I will pass it on.
